So I guess I underestimated the caterpillars’ ages when I said that in about a week and a half they’d turn into chrysalids because last night, two of them crawled to the top of their tank and they’ve formed the J-shape that means their skin will split soon and they’ll turn into chrysalids. See?
The third one is on the lid of the tank too but so far she hasn’t started spinning the gooey webby stuff that her feet will stick to when she makes the J-shape, so my theory is that she’s lonely and just wanted to be up there with her friends.
I forget how long it takes to go from J-shape to chrysalis but I’ll be keeping an eye on them. I won’t be recording it happening because I’d have to lift the lid to get a good shot and I don’t want to disturb them while they’re doing their thing. If I can get pics through the lid of the tank, I will.
